R. Martin. La prima stagione è basata sul primo romanzo della collana, A Game of Thrones, che in Italia è stato pubblicato da Mondadori in due volumi, Il Trono di Spade e Il grande inverno. La serie è stata rinnovata per una seconda stagione, che verrà trasmessa a partire dal 1º aprile 2012. Jon Snow, figlio bastardo di Eddard Stark, si arruola invece nei Guardiani della notte e si reca sulla Barriera, enorme muro di ghiaccio che separa il mondo degli uomini dalle ostili terre del Nord, da cui sta arrivando una minaccia terribile. Nel frattempo Daenerys Targaryen e il suo crudele fratello Viserys, ultimi superstiti della nobile Casa Targaryen regnante prima della rivolta dei Baratheon, cercano di ricostruire l'antico potere nelle selvagge terre al di là del mare.
